Dr. Abbas Sharaki, professor of geology and water resources at Cairo University, said that Ethiopia is preparing for the third storage of the Renaissance Dam.
Sharaki added, during television statements, that the amount of water that will be stored in the third filling of the Renaissance Dam depends on the size of the construction that Ethiopia will implement in the remaining time before the flood, and Addis Ababa does not know exactly what height water will reach before the flood.
He stressed that Ethiopia is expected to store between 2 to 6 billion cubic meters of water in the third filling of the Renaissance Dam.
An official at the Egyptian Ministry of Irrigation confirmed in previous statements that “if Ethiopia completes filling the Renaissance Dam reservoir within five years as it had planned, which is a short period of time that the downstream countries Egypt and Sudan object to, Egypt will lose about 36 percent of the total water supply, and half of its agricultural area.”
